REDCHURCH STREET – WORKPLACE

This project played a vital role in safeguarding a Grade II listed building dating from 1735, which had previously been placed on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk register. Once derelict, the former weavers’ tenements were restored and reimagined into distinctive retail spaces. The interiors reveal layers of the building’s history, with original architectural features preserved and integrated. The result is a series of spaces where historic character and contemporary functionality coexist in harmony.

Delivered over five years, the project was a true labour of love. The restoration process involved detailed analysis, careful repair, and the use of traditional craft techniques. Wherever possible, original materials were retained and reused, ensuring that the building’s historic fabric was preserved. The services and infrastructure were designed to provide the flexibility for the buildings to be used as one or two separate premises.

EM Tecnica led the MEP design and strategy, working closely with the architect and client throughout. Care was taken to sensitively integrate modern building services while respecting the architectural and historic significance of the buildings.
