FORTNUM & MASON, PICCADILLY – RETAIL

EM Tecnica delivered MEP design for the double helix staircase at Fortnum & Mason’s Piccadilly flagship, forming part of the most ambitious update to the store since it opened in the early 18th century. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s double helix concept, the staircase creates a striking architectural centrepiece.

Spanning from the Lower Ground Floor to the Second Floor, the twin interwoven staircases wrap around the central atrium, enabling smooth and continuous circulation while appearing as a single sculptural form. The feature combines complex engineering with exceptional craftsmanship, incorporating bespoke balustrades, refined detailing and discreetly integrated lighting.

Working within a live, operational retail environment, EM Tecnica carefully coordinated and integrated MEP services to support the installation. Designed to be unobtrusive, preserving the visual impact of the staircase while delivering high-performance functionality appropriate for this famous retail setting.
