RAF MUSEUM – HOSPITALITY

A large scale multi-million pound redevelopment programme at the RAF Museum in Hendon took place to coincide with the Royal Air Force centenary in 2018. Working with NEX architects the bold scheme involved transforming an existing hangar building into a new exhibition space with visitor facilities and the conversion of an existing workshop into a new restaurant.

The large and challenging hangar building required a carefully controlled heated environment provided by gentle radiant heating. The building was modelled to establish the summertime conditions and it was decided to reuse the existing smoke ventilators to provide natural ventilation to assist in summertime temperature control.
